Welcome Possums to the Ropars family innovation for 2007!!

That's right, Mama's got her blog thing going on.....I have always constructed journals for Zak and Theo. These journals were daily records until they turned 1 and then monthly from then onwards. Full of photos, commentary and mail, the boys love to read them over to see themselves and all of you together in various places and ways. However, we thought that given the reception of Zakary's Chronicles, we would update the journals and publish a seasonal blog so everyone could see what we have been getting upto as well as see how the boys are faring. Like the journals, I will post commentary and photos, but as always, all our videos and other photo albums can be found on Yann's website - www.imageevent.com/yann. We hope you will continue to visit the blog as well as the photo website as time and the boys march onwards......Love to you all, and peace...... YKZT.

October Chronicles....it's pumpkin time !!

YYYYYEEEEESSSSSS...it's pumpkin time and we know what that means, don't we kiddies?

It means we get to go to the farm and pick out pumpkins that weigh more than we do so Mama has to carry them for ourselves, ....and.... we get ones that can fit in the palm of Mama's hands for her!!.... It also means that our choices of costumes vary daily from pigs, bears, birds, frogs, to cows and then to cats.... Mama is thinking Goldilocks and the 3 bears right now and is wondering where she put that website with all the DIY costumes on it!

Theo is growing more teeth and beginning to expand the jumping repertoire. The red sofa and Mama and Dada's bed are taking a beating as Zak and Theo try out their freestylin'.....Yoga has also picked up of late with Zak excelling at trees, dogs and bridges and trying on the fish.... Theo ends up rolling around a lot, there's not much yoga to be done when you are wearing a supernappy at night! But we are working on it!!

In the end, the kids end up dressed as Thomas the Tank Engine - both of them and Theo is quick on the draw with the doorbell while Zak waits in ambush in the garden. At first Theo was a bit leery but once he realized there were sweets involved he was all over it..... waiting for the first snow now......

The first snow arrived on the 21st much to Zak's initial wonder and then when he realized it was gone in an hour, dismay, causing the questions 'when is the big snow coming Mama?'...but he has his new jacket and 'nice snowpants' so he is ready and waiting.....Theo just hopes it is not cold....

Theo's best friend at school is 'onri' (Henry) and they even managed a train for a car swap last week. There is never a day when Mama picks up Theo that there is a not a story of what Theo and Onri got upto that day. This often involves wrestling...

Zak and Theo are now completely down with the 'fete de pyjama' that they go to every second Friday so Mama and Dada can have date night at Theo's school. Onri goes as well so now they have become a trio.

We tried to make a gigantic spider with our leaf bags but that silliness was nipped in the bud when Zak and Theo began to use the bags as launching and falling pads causing leaves and limbs to go in all directions....maybe next year....:)

When September comes...

When September comes......there are plenty of changes....

Zak decided to go to school every day and all day, sleeping with Mao and his friends and eating snacks. He comes home now between 330 and 4.... much to Mama's relief as she has her hands full this semester. He's a great helper and loves to cook. Doesn't like the cleaning as much. Every day he asks when the snow is coming and is looking forward to the leaves changing. Zakzak has also started telling jokes and gave an interesting twist to a nursery rhyme when he stated ' the wife takes a farmer'.....he continues to sing, paint, pull kids in the wagons at school and is famous for his hugs. His mama hopes he holds onto his 'sweet man' side :).

Theo is toying with the toilet....he likes to stand at the potty and pee with Zak and sometimes leads us to believe he may actually move away from the nappy only to return to it.... still growing teeth also and still somewhat of a possible vegetarian. He is also growing like a mushroom and expanding his vocabulary = his favourite words and phrases being 'come with me', 'go away', 'no', 'help you' and 'cut head'.... that pretty much sums up his personality at 2 and a bit years old.

Dada comes home every two weeks for a week from Durango and we prepare for our move there. Life is crazy, mama is crazy too.....:)

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May....

As well as other things.....

School's out!! Yeah baby! It's been a crazy semester so everyone is pretty happy summer is here and we can chill out a little bit with the schedule. Mama, Zak and Theo now go to school in the mornings, come home after lunch for a siesta and then hang out......Mama had two graduations to get through first though which really wore her out = running around the arena with the black robes on like something out of Harry Potter..... if only she had her wand to cut that 3 hour endurance session done to a cool 30 minutes..... but alack..... not that she should be complain though, cos no sooner had the woman had her birthday, then it was Mother's Day..... so we all trooped off out to breakfast for a change and we men bought Mama some flowers, cos you know, Mama really does rock!

Dada then decided it was time to high tail it to Fruita.......
with all his biking buddies from Fort Collins leaving us alone to create all sorts of mayhem with Mama.....right on......:) The best part of Dada going to Fruita is the fact that in the mornings we can sneak into Mama's bed and have a calin with her before breakfast while we have our milk. We run her ragged most of the time but we also make her laugh a ton and we get to go and see friends and other cool things.....We miss Dada too but we talk on the phone every day and tell him some stories.....

May was also a sad time because we had to say Goodbye to our very good friends Wayne and Michelle who moved to Kaleeforniay.........But as Mama says, now we can go and visit them there and hang out in wineries and Dada can play some golf. Apparently it is a better climate there too......not sure what we are going to do at the wineries or the golf course but the parents seemed to be excited.....

As we said goodbye we also had a great dinner with les Francais and Mama and Dada are now thinking of creating a French Table group of families in Fort Collins where we all get together to have a meal, French style, which this gives us kids some friends who also speak French. This month we had Kevin and his family over as well as Pierre and his family. So we had 4 french speaking kids to play with and Pierre's boys who are older hung out with us downstairs and played camping in the basement. It was really too cool... So here's hoping the parents get their acts together to make this a more common occurrence....

We also began our summer migrations up the canyon to the river to cool down, cos you know we don't have air conditioning in our house. Mama did ask Dada what he thought about a portable swamp cooler but he said it is only 6 weeks of heat.....which is true...... but our heads get real sweaty in bed, man.......!!!! So to escape, we head to the water......just like..... everybody else in northern Colorado!! Lots of people were fishing and the river is really running this year with all the snow over the winter so we also saw a lot of people kayaking....We hung out in the water and tried to crash somebody's BBQ before Mama and Dada put us back in the car to come home. Here are some pics of our day at the river with our trucks and all. The one of Zak and Dada is one of Mama's favourites!!

And now a special photo for Uncle Bart... that's right....even three year olds can have plumber's crack....

Hope you all are keeping cool to after school cos we sure are and we count the days until Robert and Genevieve arrive to see us!!

Bises tout le monde!! PEACE...

April Showers, April Flowers, April foolishness...

Ah yes....where did April go? With all the rain and the snow, the garden really took off...as did the boys, Theo's teeth (again), Mama on the jetplane and so much more.....

It all started with Easter with Nikki, Magda and Matthias' easter egg hunt; school festivities which saw Mama blowing at least one dozen eggs over the course of a week (no sniggering please Uncle Bart and Dani), and Mama making Easter gifts for Theo's school. We missed the easter egg hunt at Theo's school as the boys slept through with their nap, but Zak made a beautiful Easter basket with a special dyed egg, a little garden and butterfly. He grew the grass himself and was most impressed. We also prepared for spring by getting the garden soil ready to grow and the first seedlings in their pots. Zak and Theo practised with their own little flower pots which suffered from a little neglect but it's the learning that is important! Every day there are new flowers and unfortunately, new weeds but the garden is full of surprises and fills many a fun afternoon of discovery!

Theo continues with his teeth growing program with about 4 a month - this month we had some more molars coming through which means he has resorted to saving all his food in his cheeks like a little squirrel and then sucking it dry. When there is no juice left, we get to see the dried up stuff spat into the rubbish tins or toilet...... nice.....

It snowed also early in the month and then half way through April, Mama went to China for the first time for a conference.
She says it was spectacular and wants to go back. She met up with the Munshi family and travelled with them through Hangzhou and Beijing and took 100 photos = they can be seen at www.imageevent/com/yann - here are a few for you to see.....

Zak and Theo spent the week driving Dada insane and in school but when Mama came back they had several books, crayons, Nini and Jing Jing for the Olympics and other goodies from Mama's friends. Then it was Mama's birthday..... Mama turned 39 this year and has been working hard so Dada, Zak and Theo splashed out and gave her an afternoon at the spa for her birthday gift! She was also spoiled by Dani and Bart....and they sent her Easter stuff as well! Mama and Dada actually went and had dinner and a date that night after spending the previous Day at Zak's springfest for school making crowns, eating cake and enjoying all sorts of shenanigans.

All in all it has been a busy month = and not much time even for photos......
summer is coming soon though......

March 2007 - Part 2 - growing... in oh so many ways....

"we're going to rock this town, rock it inside out..."

(to understand the title, visit www.imageevent.com/yann to see Zak get his groove on....)

....yes, that's right folks, give a boy a haircut and the whole world shakes.....we've just had spring break so Zak and Mama spent some quality time together getting their hair done, some gardening organized, the car sorted out and various other bits and bobs. Zak also displayed his dancing prowess to Tchaikovsky - the finale is definitely a stunner....and is expanding his singing repertoire which now includes: Happy Birthday, the alphabet song, Twinkle twinkle, Alouette, Frere Jacques and we are working on 'there were 10 in the bed and the little one said...' He does stump Mama with requests for French songs, so guess who is going to have to trawl through MusicMatch????

... in the meantime, Theo puts his fingers in his ears....He continues to do well at school where he loves to push the girls - yes we will need to work on that one - and has gotten quite adept at the old 'kiss and make up'.... ok, so maybe he's smarter than we think. He continues to charm the pants off most while infuriating anyone in authority as he wants everything his brother has, and to do all Zak does;obsesses over cars, trucks and books, often sleeping with all three; and has become a regular jack in the box during the night so that all other members of the family enter the sleep deprivation zone. Needless to say, Theo Poppette is facing a steep learning curve in the realm of consequences for the above actions. He's a courageous walker though, showing impressive will and stamina and is keen to cruise on a bike. He also climbs everything and has recently started to nod his head which is making the communication of desires a tad easier for all....

Dada made himself highly unpopular and took off to Moab for a few days sans Zak, who tried to hide among the luggage while Yann was packing and announced 'Zak conduit' (Zak drives). On the first day Dada was gone, Mama was greeted by both boys smeared head to toe with Theo's butt cream which is waterproof....not to mention the humidifier, the chest of drawers, desk and Theo's bed. An hour later, as Mama took a shower, the boys took a mud bath and gave the patio and back of the house one too..... later that afternoon, Zak took it
upon himself to do some laundry, climbing on top of the laundry basket to reach the soap and add as much as possible to the machine to rewash a load just completed. Mama is still rinsing the machine...... can anyone say 'Uncle Bart'???? Watch out Tiger = you're next........

When Dada came back it was time for boys on bikes. Zak very enthusiastically helped Dada clean bikes and then they all went for a spin.... We now have to buy Zak a bigger bike as Theo has decided that he too wants some pedalling fun....

March 2007 - Part 1 - into the garden we go....!!!

"the spring has sprung, the grass has ris....I wonder where the birdies is..."

....and Theo is still getting more teeth.... this time it is the canines or those big fangs that every mother learns to hate as they cut their way so literally into the wee ones' mouths.....still if he gets all four, we'll be getting close to 16 teeth which bodes well for the 2 year old check up....yeah!

.....we've also been a little sick this month, especially Theo, although Zak seems to have sailed on by it. Theo has learned to say 'mine' which aggravates everyone and insists on doing all that Zak does. He has also taken to going over to Ms Madison's house as well..... usually because he's stalking Tiger the cat, who seems to have decided that Zak and Theo's sand pit is a prime pee pee spot.....not that he would be alone in that decision.....

.....as we begin to see the signs of pee pee advancement in Theo as he attempts to mimic his older brother, even standing at the pot, zee zee in hand..... and then we wait..... and wait.... and he gives up and pees on the carpet/mattress/floor.......we're working on it......as Mama can see the light at the end of the nappy tunnel....happy, happy, joy, joy~!

....there is much running in the house as Zak and Theo chase each other around and around and around.... there is also much mudbathing as we begin to recover the garden from the snow and add to the sandpit as well as the vege garden. Yann has constructed a new addition to the garden in the form of Zak and Theo's garden and there are many Mummy dreams about how the boys can get the salad from their garden while Dada mans the barbecue!!....

....for some reason both boys have decided they want to learn to drive Mummy's car, at the same time.... yeah.....

....Zak continues to evolve and struggle. He is now almost entirely bilingual, switching in and out of languages at the drop of a hat, on a flight of whimsy or the entry of someone new into the context. He's becoming adept at figuring out who speaks what and needs to be spoken to in which language. He and Theo have wonderful renditions of 'Happy Birthday to You'; Zak sings 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star' with Theo doing backup 'lalala' and is now venturing into the alphabet song.... Numbers can go sequentially but usually '1,2,3,7, 9, 10' a little something he picked up from Ms Madison, which Mummy is trying to eradicate......(ggrrrrrr)......

......Zak is also now chief table setter, vege chopper and dish washer, all with varying levels of prowess. He can now almost entirely dress himself and has begun his morning bathing rituals. He likes to style his hair himself and scare Theo with the hairdryer, both boys are partial to some mousse.....and Zak has been known to wear mascara because it makes his eyes 'jolie'....not that he needs too much help in that department....

.....when we measured Yann's head for Bison, it came in at 60 cm, Zak measured 52cm and Theo at 50cm..... Mama measured 57cm......scary......

February 2007 - come together, right now.....

"come together....right now..."

....yes, yes, yes..... inspired by our travels in NZ, Mama and Dada took the plunge and...... moved the boys into the same room!!!!! Moreover, into the bunk beds, so now Zak has his 'grand chateau' on top and Theo has his, well, cavern on the bottom.....we have been hesitant given the less than stellar ability Theo has displayed in staying a) asleep and b) in his bed......and these are still issues, but they have taken to it rather well, seeking instead, solidarity when they decide to go on early morning excursions. Zak remains the heavier sleeper, with Theo waking, like his Mama, at the drop of a footstep, but Zak has also managed to not pee his bed, get down and go to the bathroom early in the morning, sleep through random ramblings by Theo including night time sonatas and perhaps most of all, share his space.....

....this has meant the creation of the 'salle de jeux' or games room in the basement..... so that the bedroom is now a place of rest and reading, all the toys have moved out of the living areas down to the basement and we have also constructed their art works, art stations and jumping/wrestling/running/ stations there as well. Mama and Dada still patrol the 'no toy zone' with only books and puzzles allowed in the living area now and were astonished at how much space they reclaimed. The imperial tendencies of the two toddlers are not quelled easily however and Mama and Dada remain on guard for any encroachments into lands newly reclaimed.....

...Most of this month has been about change and stabilizing..... as we all get used to our new schedules, we have had to work in some serious fun time, making the most of the cooler times to get out and about in Denver, having day trips to the Children's Museum, Aquarium and eating out for lunch with da boyz......Valentine's Day proved a very special day with Zak and Theo making cards for all their schoolfriends and being inundated in return = they both feel well loved.... Mama cooked a Valentine's Dinner for all the family and we celebrated in style with Theo eating an unfortunate amount of chocolate covered strawberries. In the middle of the month, Mama went to Seattle for a conference and the boys and Dada had some serious man time.....

....in a frozen river canyon!!! But also some of the most beautiful pictures Mama has ever seen of us....:)

January 2007 - 4 seasons in one day - Land of the Long White Cloud

"four seasons in one day..."

Zak: Theo - viens la! Mama says we have to tell everyone about our trip to New Zealand to start the blog...

Theo: oh bah non!

Zak: oh bah si! So do you remember what happened in the beginning?

Theo: well in the beginning we were in the plane, or was it planes for a very long time. And while you got to watch videos and sit next to Mama, I had to make do with sitting on her lap and then sleeping in that bassinette thing with my feet hung out in the end....

Zak: hey at least you got to lie down straight, I spent most of my time upside down or getting cozy with the lady next door.

Theo: yeah that's right, I saw you with your legs draped all over her.....

Zak: hey don't even go there, alright? she was old enough to be our grandmother!

Theo: anyway as I was saying, the flight was actually pretty good cos we got those cool toy
packs = got to love Qantas and everyone was very helpful

Zak: yeah well we were very good too, even though everyone kept asking Mama where Dada was... like, what do we look like? TROUBLE????

Theo: yeah, but at least I got that guy a good one in the nuts - did you see that?

Zak: oh yeah = he just walked straight into your fist... cool man, you sure know how to take someone three times your height..... right on dude......

Theo: high five

Zak: low five

Theo: on the back hand side......

Zak: shame about doudou though.....

Theo: yeah the little guy makes it all the way to Auckland and I leave him on the concourse. Mama says they tried to find him but to no avail.

Zak: they should have used those sniffer dogs, that would have worked.....

Theo: good point.... but I am sure he is having a great time....

Zak: and we had a great time too..... I mean, we got to go to the farm, saw Poppa and Ian, rode on cool machines with GrandMaureen and Trevor, you tried to make friends with a horse....

Theo: well, there were no cats there.....what's a boy to do?

Zak: we read books, watched movies, I ate a lot of ham...man, can you imagine if we had been
there for Christmas?

Theo: and then we went to Tonton Bart's house and Rachel cooked for us, we went to Te Papa...

Zak: now that place rocked.

Theo: it sure did and then we went to the zoo.... here's where you get to tell everyone about your little adventure with Tonton Bart....

Zak: So, I say to Bart 'pee pee' and Tonton Bart being the good man that he is, takes me to the toilet. Now, not just any toilet, but a big boy's toilet with the URINAL.....

Theo: what's a urinal?

Zak: well it's kinda hard to describe but all the other guys were lined up next to each other.... so anyway Bart and I sidle up beside them and Bart is standing there waiting for me to do something. And I'm like, what man, what, WHAT???? So Tonton Bart well, he has to, you know, show me how..... I think he was kinda traumatised because when we found Mama again, he said to Mama, 'so Zak has never been to an urinal before, ay?' and of course I haven't because I only ever go with Mama into her toilet or I pee on the grass, man....

Theo:wow.... I can't wait to go to the urinal. Anyway other than that, we had a fantastic time having sandwiches, Sprite, sunning ourselves at the zoo. I even took my pants off.

Zak: I sure wish you'd keep those pants on a bit more, dude.....

Theo: and then we went and stayed with Tata Dani and Uncle Jaffa and baby Ethan.

Zak: yeah, right on. Petit, petit, petit Ethan rocks, big time. We ate at the little table and hung out on the deck and even went shopping.

Theo: whoa, what a nightmare that was. I think Mama is never going to take us again.

Zak: hey, we did ok for little people and at least shops in NZ have a clue and have toy boxes for us to play with when Mama is in the changing room.

Theo: good point, well presented.

Zak: Finally we got to hang out with Mary and Seb down by the water in Wellington before we hit the road and Mama scared us and herself silly by driving on the left all the way to Hamilton.

Theo: good thing we stopped in to see GrandMaureen and Trevor again. And the dogs and the MACHINES.....

Zak: yeah that was cool. I really like being on the farm and remember all those cool pictures I took with the cameras Mama bought?
Theo: yeah, yeah although you didn't need to spend so much time focussing on zeezee in the poussette dude....I did like your ones of Mama though with the flowers on her head.

Zak: but we digress. So we went to Hamilton and stayed with Debashish and Priya, and their two girls Akanksha and Alya. It was great. We also met our friends the Dutus and Krayeenhofs and then Coco, Sandrine and little Matthia Miles.

Theo: it was great fun. We also went to creche for a few mornings so Mama could work and in the afternoons we would go and hang out with people. We even got to see Tonton Angus with BK, Alisha and David John in Mt Maunganui.

Zak: yeah man. David and I watched Cars on the TV and ate crackers in Angus' new sofa and you covered yourself with tattoo stickers. We then had roast pork and veges that Angus cooked before Claudia came home and then we hurried back to the Waikato before the thunderstorms hit. I hate thunderstorms.....

Theo: We went to the pool, we went to the Gardens, we met all of Mama's colleagues at Waikato and then on the way back to the airport we hung out with MO and her dogs before seeing Richard and Bernadette.

Zak: now they have a cool pad in downtown Auckland and they gave us a serious stash of snakes and other lollies for the plane. They also helped Mama a lot with the car, and even at the airport, especially when I left Mao in the ladies' toilets.

Theo: don't forget our final trip to the beach!

Zak: oh yeah - it was windy just like in Wellington but it was great. We played with shells and the sand and hung out at the kiddies' play area. Then we had to get dressed up again for the plane cos Dada said it had been snowing again in Colorado.

Theo: yep, end of the summer in paradise. Can't wait til we go back again.

Zak: nah, me either man. And next time, you might have your own TV in the plane like me.

Theo: sweeeeeet.......:)

Zak: this is Zak et Theo, signing off....

Theo: good night from me

Zak: and good night from him!
